Gerald Cooper

Gerald Cooper (1898 – 1975) took up painting after the First World War, in which he was a pilot.

He painted landscapes, figurative work and still life paintings of flowers, which he went on to specialize in, growing most of his flowers in his garden. He captured the lighting, texture and colours of his subjects particularly well, reminiscent of the Dutch Old Masters. He lived in Chelsea, London in 1928, Wimbledon in 1933, when he taught at the Wimbledon School of Art, and East Horsley, Surrey in 1940.

He exhibited at the RA, the New English Club, and the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool.
