Edward Horace Thompson was born 28th January 1879 (1879 – 1949) in Seaton, near Workington, West Cumbria where he worked for 25 years as a clerk in the local steelworks. He later moved to Eaglesfield a village near Cockermouth and later still he lived in Ivy Cottage in the tiny Hamlet of Ruddings in the parish of Setmurthy. Ruddings is near Ouse Bridge at the head of Bassenthwaite Lake , Cumbria. He is buried Right at the front wall of Setmurthy Church, to the very far left of the entrance gate. In his lifetime he painted many paintings and most of them of the Lake District.
Thompson also painted picture postcards for Valentines of Dundee. In the 1940s Valentines reproduced the pictures in the form of booklets and also calendars.
