About Arthur Batt
Arthur Batt (1846-1911) was a Hampshire-born artist whom specialised in genre and animal scenes, known for his portraits of canines, donkeys and new forest pieces. Studying in the studio of H. Morringer, and later at the Royal Institute.
Being well renowned he had several prominent exhibitions of his work across the United Kingdom, such as the Liverpool Royal Academy, Glasgow Institute of Fine Art and at the Walker Art Gallery.
He exhibited four paintings at the Royal Academy, including Silent Sympathy (1889), which was featured on the cover of The Graphic magazine on April 6, 1889.
Many of his paintings were acquired by members of the British aristocracy and remain in private collections today.
