About Samual John Milton Brown

Samuel John Milton Brown (1873-1965) was born in Liverpool. He was an artist who worked in mainly oil and watercolour, capturing the everyday Mersey scenes.
He studied ships rigging on Liverpool docks which gave him great knowledge on the subject. When he was fourteen, he became an apprentice to a firm of lithographic artists and later took formal art lessons at the Liverpool School of Art, studying under John Finnie, who was a well-known engraver and landscape artist.
