About Arthur Tucker
Arthur Tucker (1864-1929) was born in Bristol. He was the son of the artist, Edward Tucker, who taught him to paint. He was also the brother of Hubert Coutts Tucker (known professionally as Hubert Coutts). Arthur then went on to move with his family to Langdale, near Ambleside, in the Lake District.
Tucker spent most of his working life in the Lake District. He was an accomplished artist who specialised in landscapes, mainly of the Lake District, although he also painted Welsh and Yorkshire views.
He became an RBA in 1895 and was also a founder member of the Lake Artists Society in 1904. He was elected a member of The Royal Society of British Artists in 1898, and later Vice President.
He exhibited at the leading London galleries from 1883, and intermittently at the Royal Academy between 1887 and 1902 and annually from 1904 to 1919. He also exhibited at The Royal Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street Gallery, RA, RBA, RHA, RI, RSA, Manchester City AG, Liverpool, The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, The Walker Gallery the New Water Colour Society and in Carlisle.
