Bernard Dufour was born on November 21, 1922 in Paris, France. He fought during World War II and was forced into labor when captured by the German army, coincidentally working alongside the novelist Alain Robbe-Grillet. Following the war he studied art at the University of Heidelberg and staged two successful solo shows and participated in the second documenta exhibition. Dufour began initially as an abstract artist, but became most well known for his later depictions of sapphic scenes of young women. He had solo exhibitions in New York, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro, including at the Galerie Patrice Trigano. He passed away in July 2016
