Edgar Bundy (1862-1922) was a British artist born in Brighton, Sussex. Bundy had no formal creative schooling and was largely self taught, he did however spend a lot of time time as a child in the studios of prolific Belgian artist, Alfred Stevens. Bundy himself was exceedingly versatile as an artist and accomplished a great deal in his time, exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1881, at just 21 years old, and at the Paris Salon from 1907.
Bundy painted many historical costume pieces, his work as a result is included in many important public and private collections, due to its accurate historical referencing. Bundy’s paintings are characteristically full to the brim with painstaking detail – they must have taken a great deal of time to complete – and their subsequent narrative strength is very compelling.
