About James Wright
James Wright was born in 1935 and started painting in 1963 as a hobby. He first specialised in painting boats depicted in harbour scenes from the Cornish and Kent coasts before he turned his attention to landscapes.
At this time, he was also working as a woodwork and technical drawing teacher but the demand for his paintings became so great, he decided to do this full-time in 1967.
Wright takes a lot of holidays cruising on the rivers Nene and Ouse, looking for scenes to paint.
His paintings portray the English landscapes with truth, beauty and accuracy with a feeling of atmosphere. He very much admires the 19th Century Dutch and English landscape artists, particularly Constable.
Wright’s work has been published by one of the leading publishers and is in collections all over the country.
