About Nigel Ashcroft
Born in Heemsteede, Holland in 1951, Ashcroft spent his early years in Sweden, Eire and Holland, before moving to England in 1965 at the age of 14. It was here that he studied at Gloucestershire College of Art and Design in Cheltenham, beginning in 1969. During his time studying here he was able to refine the techniques of drawing and watercolour, a medium in which he ultimately went on to paint exclusively in, describing it as “the most sympathetic medium for my methods of working”.
Since 1971, Nigel Ashcroft has held numerous solo exhibitions, including Frost and Reed in London (annually from 1992 to 2007) and Frost and Reed, New York. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society.
In 2003 he moved to France permanently; he currently lives in the Tarn with his wife, the painter Ann Gilmartin.
