About George Thompson
George Thompson was born in Wigan in 1934 and died in 2019. He moved to Chester when he was eleven. He studied fine art (painting) at Chester School of Art and gained an art teacher’s diploma at Liverpool College of art. He then spent his time teaching painting in Chester and the Wirral. He later moved to West Kirby, overlooking the estuary of the Dee. Here the constantly changing colours, textures and play of light on the water and wet sand, are a constant source of inspiration to him.
Every summer he combined a love of travel with a working holiday abroad, especially Venice and Tuscany and recently in Croatia, Corfu and Ireland. He has had one man exhibitions in Australia, Canada, USA and Japan and his paintings are in collections all over the world.
He has won prizes at the Pastel Society Exhibitions, at the Mall Galleries in London and the National Acrylic Painters Association Exhibition.
