About Charles Baptiste Schreiber
Schreiber, a French painter of portraits and descriptive pieces active in the latter half of the nineteenth century, represents one of the many talented artists whose careers, while acknowledged in their time, have since become subjects for dedicated art historical rediscovery.
Born in 1847 and passing away in 1903, Schreiber’s artistic journey unfolded during a period of profound transformation and dynamism in the French art world, trained by the likes of Léon Bonnat. His training under a prominent master and his debut in the institution of the Paris Salon in 1868 placed him firmly within the mainstream of artistic practice of his era with one of his pieces ‘A Young Italian Knitting’ being in the Museum of Rheims.
