About Dione Mary Ernestine Page
Dione Mary Ernestine Page was born in Chelsea, London on the 10th of July 1936. She grew up on her father’s farm at Maldon during the war and went on to study at the Colchester School of Art from 1953-1956.
After university she worked as a graphic design artist. Within this field, she initually worked for Charles Debenham. During this time, she learnt three crucial styles. These three tools have served her ever since. These mediums include Lumograph Pencil, Gouache, and Wax Pastel.
Page specialises in Gouache painting equally her body of work focuses on painting natural scenes with still life’s. Interstingly, Page draws inspiration from memories and her local scene and her first body of work was inspired by her memories of Wales. Page visited Wales on holiday with her family and instantly was attracted by the mountains and waterfalls and was drawn in by breathtaking landscapes. Initally these works were friendly yet virile, reflecting the natural elements of the mountains. These Welsh pieces were strong in subject yet particularly touched by light to often the view.
She became a strong figure for the arts within her community and was a tutor for Essex County Council Adult Art Education 1977-1997 taking Maste Classes. She recieved several notable awards such as the Best Watercolour at the Royal Watercolour Association 1983 and 1988, the Best Watercolour Exhibition in 1995,te BestPainting Award at the East of England Art Exhibition in 1996 and in the same year won the Best Newcomer Award at the Bury St Edmund’sArt Society. An addociate member of the Ipswich Art Society 1965-1974
Page exhibited at venues such as the Phoenix Galleries in Lavenham, Suffolk and London. Her work as been included in group shows at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions; the Royal Watercolour Society; the Society of Women Artist in London; the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff and the Patricia Wells Gallery in Thornbudy and Hayletts Gallery, Maldon, Essex.
Sadly Page has passed away, on the 31st of August 2021.
