Philip Naviasky was born in 1894 in Leeds and later died in 1983. He specialised in watercolour and oil painting and mainly painted landscapes, still lifes, and portraits.
He won a scholarship to study at Leeds School of Fine Art in 1907. In 1912, he became the youngest ever student accepted into the Royal Academy school. He went on to win a Royal Exhibition award and to study at the Royal College of Art, after which he spent his career in Leeds as an artist and art teacher at Leeds College of Art.
Philip Naviasky exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1914-54 and also at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Glasgow Institute, New English Art Club, and had several one-man shows. He painted the portraits of many prominent people and worked extensively abroad, including in France, Italy, Spain and Morocco. His work is represented in several public collections.
