About Emil Axel Krause
Emil Axel Krause was born in 1871 in Copenhagen and died in 1945. He was a painter as well as a lithographic artist and today he is appreciated for his paintings. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1889 to 1895.
He later then came to Birkdale, Southport, England and then moved to Wales. He is well known for his scenic watercolours of the North of England and Scotland. He began painting in the southern counties and Wales gradually moving North first falling in love with the English Lakes and then Scotland. At about the time of the First World War he changed his name to Stock either through anglicising his name or perhaps it sounded Germanic. We have recently been told that he became interested in photography and indeed ended up in Inverness, Scotland with a photographic and art studio.
His work exhibited between 1891-1914 at the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool, Royal Cambrian Academy and Manchester City Art Gallery.
