Artist Biography
Oil painting signed by the artist Edward Benjamin Herberte. Finished with a traditional golden coloured period frame.
Edward Benjamin Herberte was believed to have been born in Warkwickshire in 1857. He was a sporting and horse painter who often painted hunting scenes. He painted a number of scenes of the North Warkwickshire Hunt, several of which are of Kenilworth. During the mid-19th century, the introduction of improved saddles enabled women to ride across country and over fences more securely and he was one of the first artists to depict this. In addition to his sporting scenes, he also painted a number of coaching scenes. Examples of his works are held by the National Trust, Lanhydrock and the New Walk Museum & Art Gallery, Leicester.
