Charles Murray Padday was a British artist born in 1868 in Notting Hill, London. Padday is perhaps most well known for his seascapes and marine scenes. He first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1886 at the age of just 18! He continued to exhibit there for the next 40 years, and rarely had his paintings refused.
Padday was also a talented illustrator and drew for several periodicals including the Illustrated London News, The Sphere and the Pall Mall Magazine. He also produced illustrations for several published books for authors such as Lord Charles Beresford and Rudyard Kipling.
He also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists. The National Maritime Museum, Greenwich continues to hold two of his pictures.
