About Andrew King
Andrew King was born in Bedford in 1956, and works as a full-time professional artist, painting primarily landscape and marine scenes. King graduated from Hornsey College of Art in London with a degree in Fine Art. Following the completion of his studies he took part in the ‘Windsor & Newton Young Artists Award’ for the Royal institute of Oil painters in 1985, becoming a finalist. He was later elected to become a full member of the Institute in 1992, serving on its council. King also enjoys being an active member of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists (EAGMA), and has served as the group’s Hon. Secretary.
King has painted in North Norfolk since 1987, often opting to work outside, suggesting it provides his work with a “freshness and vibrancy” that is hard to capture working in the studio. He paints in a beautiful, fluid style, with confident, broad brush strokes that capture movement and life within his artwork.
King regularly exhibits throughout East Anglia and across the UK, he has also exhibited internationally. Notable exhibitions of his work include at The Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition (ROI) – every year since 1985, The Royal Society of Marine Artists and The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. His work has been purchased for royal, public and private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA.
