About Tony Sheath
Tony Sheath was born in London in 1946. The quality of his landscapes and figurative work can show incredible attention to detail. Many of his earlier works are scenes related to Herefordshire and Gloucestershire with one of his favourite rivers, the Wye being the basis for many canvases. A main characteristic of his river scenes are the depiction of tranquil, crystal clear water, the clarity of the river bed clearly viewable, with horses and figures often as focal points.
During the 1970’s and 80’s he was the resident artist for Frost & Reed, a leading Bond Street Gallery, where he had considerable success. In addition he was contracted to an important publishing firm who has produced his paintings as limited edition prints, and there are several other publishers such as Parnassus and Paper House who have also reproduced his work as greeting cards, helping to further his very successful career.
Sheath’s recent work is more impressionistic, showing townscapes or cityscapes with people passing through, going about their daily routine or relaxing. An emphasis on light and colour has continued to be characteristic of his work.
