Artist Biography
About Arthur Delaney
Arthur Delaney (1927-1987) was from Chorlton upon Medlock in Manchester. He was a painter mainly of Manchester scenes, much inspired by L.S. Lowry.
At the age of 13, Delaney started working at a textile design studio in Manchester where he worked for over 30 years. He started painting as a hobby on the side.
In 1974, he held a show at the Tib Lane Gallery in Manchester, selling all of his artwork in a very short space of time. His art continues to sell during his lifetime and exhibited at the Royal Academy. A lot of his work were also produced as limited edition prints.
In 2010, one of Delaney’s paintings in a Lowry style was auctioned after being seized by police, as a convicted fraudster has purchased the painting for £7,500 and signed “L S Lowry, 1964” onto the painting before selling it on for £330,000 to a specialist dealer.
